Re-save the date.

We had to postpone our wedding because of Covid-19. To be honest, the days and weeks leading up to us actually doing it, I came to realise it was inevitable. It wasn't a shock.

A few weeks ago, the Church of Wales announced that until at least 31st July 2020, there would be no weddings held (bar a few which had to adhere to certain criteria). As our wedding was booked for 27th June 2020, this obviously included us.

The next day, I phoned the vicar. I didnt want to call him the day I saw the announcement as I knew he would be inundated with telephone calls from people whose weddings were immenant. From there, we discussed what was best to do as far as re-booking. We decided to postpone our wedding until my birthday in September this year.

From there, I contacted all of my suppliers. As we are having our wedding reception on our farm ,we have ALOT of suppliers; from tables, chairs, flooring, lighting, caterers, loo hire and the list goes on and on. It was a very very long day! All of our suppliers, bar one, have been able to accomodate us on our new date.

I can't say I felt sad or upset by any of this though. Us getting married is not worth risking the health, or lives of our loved ones. A few of our guests are in the high risk category, and if they were to become ill because they came to our wedding it would be something that we could never forgive ourselves for.

Nor were we willing to sacrife the wedding that we wanted. We were given the option by the vicar to get married within a week, with just 5 of us at the ceremony. This would have included us and the vicar. this wasn't something that appealed to either of us. We have been together for almost 10 years. We can wait a little longer.

In the meantime, for the next weeks, and months, we have to stay indoors. We must practice social distancing. We must protect ourselves, our families, and our NHS and keyworkers. Because if we dont, the lockdown will continue.

Hopefully, we wont need to rearrange again as all of us will adhere to the instructions given to us, the lockdown will be lifted and we can get married this year. When that day comes, we will count our blessings that our loved ones are with us and are celebrating our big day.

Stay safe, stay home, save lives
