We went camping.

So we went camping. With an 8 month old. With no electricity.

I'll be honest. In the few days running up to us going I was concerned.  Mainly because we weren't able to secure a pitch with an electricity hook up. I shouldnt have worried so much.

We were meant to head to the campsite in St Davids on the Friday night and return on the Sunday.  However, for the first time in months we had torrential rain on the Friday! How typical! We decided that setting up a tent and entertaining a baby in that weather would be no fun, so we set off on the Saturday morning after the rain had cleared.

We were travelling with my cousin, her husband and their 2 daughters aged 4 and almost 2, and meeting friends with their daughter there. We got to St Davids at around 11am. While the tents were being set up I realised that we had forgotten the babys formula and all of her food, as well as some of ours. This was all sitting in bags ready, in our kitchen at home!!

So off I went with my cousin to find the nearest supermarket to stock up. This did not start our break off well I must admit.

Once we got back and I fed the baby, we took a walk into the city centre (did you know that St Davids is the smallest city in europe?) for a drink and some ice cream. The ice cream is AMAZING. Seriously, if you are ever in St Davids you must have the ice cream.

We came back to the campsite and had a barbeque before settling the kids for bed and having a chat and a drink. By now we were all exhausted and went to bed ourselves.

Alys was a superstar and was not phased by anything. By now she has slept in the travel cot several times so was used to it so I suppose that helped her settle. She didnt mind the tent and only woke breifly a few times as she usually does anyway. We were lucky to buy our tent for a bargin sale price and its huge! Its a 6 man tent that you can stand up in, so we had plenty of room for everything without feeling cramped.

I was worried that we did not have any electricity, but the amenities on the campsite were fab. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster and microwave. There are also very clean showers and toilets and family bathrooms which I bathed Alys in before bed. There are also wetsuit shower and cleaning rooms. The kettle and microwave were very useful for Alys' food and bottles.

The next day we had breakfast using our camping cooker to make bacon and egg rolls ans then began to pack everything away. A Sunday lunch on our way home finished the weekend off nicely.

It is a shame that the weather stopped us going for the 2 nights, but hopefully next time we will be able to go for the whole weekend. And hopefully, we can have the luxury of electricity too, although I now know we can manage without it.
